dc.description.abstract | This study comes as a result of the increase in youth une111ployment in Kansanga parish and Kampala District and Uganda as a country. The purpose of the study was to investigate the causes of youth unemploy111ent in Kansanga pai-ish. The study had s1xcific objectives of establishing the causes of youth unemployment, assessing the impact of Uganda's education system on the unemployment problem and to propose solutions to address the problem in Kansanga parish. A descriptive cross-sectional study design was used of 40 respondents who included local leaders and youths in Kansanga parish. The study findings revealed that there are a number of socio-ccono111ic factors that account for youth unemployment. The study concluded that youth unemployment in Kansanga is high at around 60 % and the most affected are the males and becm1se the population is growing very fast. Provision of social services is difficult given the low tax contribution. The study further concluded that whereas some people say many youths in Kansanga are voluntarily unemployed, the fact is that the problem of unemployment is structural resulting Ii-om a deficiency in demand for labor in the labor market as some of the youth who are educated complained of low industrialization and discrimination in the labor market and the formal sector which explains their under employment or unemploy111ent in the informal sector. The study recommended that to fight the problem of youth unemployment, there should be effo11s put in place to among other things; Control rural-urban migration that results into high population growth, Make reviews and redesign Uganda's education system Avail credit facilities to address young peoples' financial constraints that limit entrepreneurship. Construct skills imparting institutions in many parts of the country to provide youths with practical skills education and make the cost of the training affordable.
