dc.description.abstract | The Vision 2020 Umurenge Programme (VUP) aims to reduce poverty at the community level through providing employment opportunities for poor people with productive capacities, and direct assistance such as cash transfers to the poorest and most vulnerable households. The study was to determine the demographic information of respondents, to determine the areas that vision 2020 emphasized for attaining its objectives in economic development of population, to evaluate the contribution of VUP in economic development of Nyamagabe district and to determine the challenges which vision 2020 umurenge program faced on achieving economic development of Nyamagabe district. The study population comprised of 503 people of Nyamagabe District; A sample of 223 respondents was chosen, using simple random sampling method. Questionnaires were used in collecting both primary and secondary data. The collected data was analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative methods. The findings of the study discovered that the VUP for attaining its objectives of the welfare of the population it emphasized on Gender equality, on Natural resources and environment and Culture and on Science, Technology and ICT, VUP based on Agriculture and livestock, in education, health, habitat and urban planning, justice and information and communication technology ICT. The challenges are lack of the skills, lack of financial capacity, lack of adequate communication and collaboration among stakeholders and Poor health problem. The study concluded that VUP has positive impact in social economic development. It recommends that VUP policy should be well articulated to reflect the financial and skills, training and regular monitoring and periodic evaluation of the vision 2020 umurenge activities is needed. | en_US |
