| dc.description.abstract | This is the study was about the factors affecting the teaching of traditional Kenyan dances in the primary schools of Dandora -zone, Nairobi East district. The instruments of research used were questionnaires, interview. guide and observation schedule. Five primary schools were involved in the study. Data was collected using questionnaires and oral interviews. The survey shows that there are a number of factors Affecting the teaching of traditional Kenyan dances in primary schools. These factors include; lack of traditional instruments, lack of teachers who are specialist in music (traditional dancers), negative attitudes of teachers and pupils towards the teaching and learning of traditional folk dance, the influence of town life (urbanization), the area being cosmopolitan, among others. To make many schools and pupils pick a positive attitude towards the teaching and learning of traditional dance the study suggests that: 1. School administrators should see to it that music is taught as a subject and it should be examinable. 2. Teachers and pupils should be sensitized on the importance of our African traditional dances to appreciate them instead of appreciating and developing western dances more than ours | en_US |
