dc.description.abstractThis study was intended to investigate the causes or learner’s absenteeism and school dropout in Keiyo District in Kenya. The following objectives guided the study; to identify the influence or school based causes or absenteeism and dropping - out or pupils in primary schools. To identify the influence of' home based causes or absenteeism and dropping out of' pupils in primary schools, to identify the in between causes or pupil absenteeism and dropping out of' pupils, To suggest possible recommendations that the school, parents and the community at large should undertake to minimize absenteeism and dropping - out or pupils. The respondents used in the study were learners, teachers, parents who Riled a semi-structured questionnaire containing items which had been formulated the objectives. Findings show that on pupil’s absenteeism the main cause is sickness due to common colds. The area the research was carried is a high altitude area, there lbre it is life cold. Another cause was that many parents retain pupils to assist them in house hold chores. Lack of' money to meet school expenses like uniforms and ignorance or parents on their roles towards the importance or pupils school attendance. The pupils, teachers and parents agreed that in-between (home and school) influence primary school pupils to drop out from school. The pupils ranked teenage pregnancies and early marriages, as the most influencing cause, while parents ranked influence or the peer group to be away !Tom school as the most influencing ~'actor. The teachers ranked negative attitude of' pupils towards school as the most influencing. According to the report 33.3% indicated that they do not have adequate books and materials. Teachers use a variety or teaching methods. These are group discussions, question and answer and the use of' text book and supplementary materials. The above methods are used regularly. Audio visual and lecturing are rarely used.en_US
