The research project investigated the Environmental Sustainability of Petroleum in Uganda a Legal Perspective. The purpose of this study is to address the Environmental risks and dangers that petroleum exploitation in the Albertine Graben may pose to the environment in general and the surrounding community. The researcher found out that although that there is an effective Legislative Frame Work in place to address environmental sustainability the reality is that most of these laws remain on paper. The research also addresses the concept of Sustainable Development as one of the integral aspect of Environmental Sustainability. Since petroleum is a non-renewable resource there is a need to ensure that the needs of the present and future generations are protected which also includes a right to a clean and healthy environment. Furthermore two case studies of African oil producing Nations is discussed not as role model for Uganda but so as to heed to the mistakes made by these nations in order to ensure sustainable exploitation of petroleum.en_US
