Abstract
The study examined the role of Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) in promoting savings among the people of Juba County, Southern Sudan. The objectives of the study were to establish the relationship between (KCB) and savings, to determine the saving products offered by KCB and to find out the role of Kenya Commercial Bank in promoting savings. The study was conducted at KCB situated along Yei Road, .Juba District, and it covered period of six months that is, from November 2009 to April 2010. In the literature review, theories were used to support the study and concepts linked and analyzed to bring out and understand the objectives. In the research methodology, the study employed a case study design were both qualitative and quantitative approaches were employed and the study population consisted of management of the bank, bank's employees, bank's clients and 70 respondents were sampled through stratified sampling technique. Both questionnaire and interview methods were used to collect data and the researcher followed all the research procedures on ground besides, respecting all the ethical and logistical considerations of research. Both qualitative and quantitative approaches were also used to analyze data. The findings of the study reveal that Kenya Commercial Bank plays a vital role in promoting savings among the people of Juba-County using different approaches and techniques· like sensitizing and educating the rural poor, improving interest rates, establishing appropriate saving instruments among others'. And the bank offers a variety of savings products such as Amana accounts, Cubs Accounts, Simba Accounts, Students Accounts, Savings Accounts, Fixed Deposit accounts, Islamic Accounts among others hence capturing those rural poor. Conclusively, Kenya Commercial Bank and saving products are intertwined and inseparable.
