dc.description.abstract | The research report by the title Examination malpractice and academic performance of pupils in Kole District, a case study of Akalo Sub-County was carried out by Mr Olet Tonny. The objectives of the study was; To examine how inadequate preparation influences academic performance of pupils in Kole District, To find out the extent to which laziness affects academic performance of pupils in Kole District, To analyse how access to finance affects academic performance of pupils in Kole District and to examine the effects of peer pressure on academic performance of pupils in Kole District. Data were collected from DIS Head teachers, police officers (key informants), teachers, parents, local community and pupils. Interview guides were administered to key informants; Questionnaires were used for teachers and pupils while focus group discussion was applied to local community. The data collected were presented on tables and graphs and analysed using percentages and major findings highlighted thus: most students do not prepare for examination, poor teaching styles by teachers affect examination results negatively , laziness affects performance, students from low income families are not motivated to study hard , peer pressure affects pupils' performance. The findings of the study showed that inadequate preparation, laziness, access to finance and peer pressure have a lot of negative effects on academic performance of pupils in Kole District. It was also of significance to the education stakeholders on issues of preparation, commitment, economic status and guidance and counseling. It's hoped that they would be equipped with information on how to enhance the academic performance of pupils in Kole District. | en_US |
