Abstract
This study attempted to establish relationship between effectiveness of commercial banks and economic empowerment of clients in Muhanga District, Rwanda. The study was carried out in eight commercial Banks in Muhanga District. The specific objectives of this study included: to determine the profile of the respondents; to determine the level of effectiveness of commercial banks; to determine the level of economic empowerment of clients; to compare if there is significant difference in the level of effectiveness of commercial banks; to compare is there is significant difference in the level of economic empowerment of clients; and determine correlation between commercial banks and economic empowerment of clients in Muhanga District. Descriptive correlation was the research design used in this study and sample size of 397 was determined by SLOVEN’s formula from a population of 49153. Both random and purposive sampling techniques were used to sample respondents. The research instruments used in the study were self-administered questionnaires. These instruments were standardized and its reliability was determined by pre-testing. The researcher also considered both ethical and logistic considerations while carrying out this study. Data analysis was done by the use of mean, t-test Equality of Means, correlation and regression matrix. Research findings portrayed that commercial banks in Muhanga District were effective in delivering services to clients (mean=2.66); economic empowerment of clients was also found to be high (mean=2.65); there was significant difference in the level of effectiveness among commercial banks in Muhanga (F. ratio of 1.762E and sig. of 0.00), there existed significant difference in the level of economic empowerment among clients in selected commercial banks (F. ratio of 1.459E3 and sig. value of 0.000). There is also a positive significant relationship between commercial banks and economic empowerment of clients at r-value of 0.994, r. square value of 988; mean square of 256.857; F-ratio of 3.361E4; Beta of 0.994; t-value of 183.321; and a small level of significance of 0.000. It was concluded that the two study variables were positively significant related to each other.
