Abstract
The purpose of this study was to establish whether there is a significant relationship between the Level of Teacher Empowerment and level of Teacher Performance in selected Primary Schools of Mikindani division-Kenya. The study had five specific objectives, which include: i) to determine the demographic characteristics of respondents in terms of gender, age, level of Education and experience ii) to determine the level of Level of Teacher Empowerment iii) to determine the level of Teacher Performance iv) to establish whether there is a significant difference in the Level of Teacher performance between
Male and Female v) to establish whether there is a significant relationship between Level of Teacher Empowerment and level of
Teacher Performance in selected Primary Schools of Mikindani division-Kenya, and employed both descriptive comparative and
correlational survey designs. The findings indicated that most respondents were female (56%), between 31-40 years of age, majority were Bachelors degree holders (32%) and over 52% had an experience of 7 years and above in teaching. The level of Teacher Empowerment is generally low and this was indicated by the total mean of 2.20 . The level of Teacher Performance was also found to be generally low with the total mean of 1.49; this was so because of low levels of Teacher Empowerment in selected Primary Schools of Mikindani division-Kenya. The findings also indicated a negative insignificant difference in the Level of Teacher performance between Male and Female, and also indicated a negative insignificant relationship, negative insignificant correlation between the Level of Teacher Empowerment and level of Teacher Performance in selected
Primary Schools of Mikindani division-Kenya. Therefore the researcher recommends that From the findings and the conclusions of the study, the researcher recommends that there is need to encourage teachers to go for further studies hence acquiring more skills, the researcher recommends that there is a need for management to motivate it’s teachers Malindi district, the Government of Kenya should carry out frequent supervision of Teachers in Primary Schools of Mikindani division-Kenya, this will improve the level of Teacher performance, The Government should increase the salary payments of Teachers in
the Primary Schools of Mikindani division-Kenya, this will encourage Teachers to improve their work and hence increase the level of teacher performance and there is a need to empower teachers while in teaching profession in Mikindani District.
