dc.description.abstract | Soil erosion is a global issue and affects both farmlands and the economy; the causes and effects of soil are on the increase through out the country. The research was conducted in Tambajja Village Kapchorwa District in Eastern Uganda. The objectives of the study were to find out the causes and impacts of soil in Tambajja village and examine the effective s of the existing soil conservation techniques. A sample of 40 respondent as randomly selected. Data for the study was collected using questionnaires, or interviews, observations and photography. The study revealed that the main causes of soil erosion as agriculture, deforestation, over grazing , heavy rainfall, steep hills slopes and poor farming methods. The consequences of soil erosion were identified as loss of top fertile soil, leading to low yields and crop failure, turbidity of water, destruction of transport routes, gullies which limit mechanization and poverty. The study suggests solutions to reduce the problem of soil erosion through implementation of strict laws and bye laws to farmers who graze animals on other peoples’ farms. | en_US |
