Abstract
This research basically meant to look at the effect of communication on employee performance in Hormuud telecom in Mogadishu. The problem was to have effective communication in Hormuud Telecom in Mogadishu. The major purpose of this study was to establish the relationship between communication and employee performance in Hormuud telecom in Mogadishu. The study was guided by objectives and research questions that helped in finding out the forms of communication practiced in Hormuud telecom in Mogadishu, to establish the effects of communication on employee’s performance in Hormuud telecom in Mogadishu, and to investigate the barriers to effective communication in Hormuud telecom in Mogadishu.
The study in its chapter two, explored literature as put by different scholars like Gomez,
Birungi, Meija, greth and many others. It was evident that they agreed with the research topic that communication has effect on employee performance.
Chapter three of the study showed the methodology that was employed in getting the required data. It used quantitative and qualitative research design.
Through the methodology it was easier for the researcher to access information and analyzes accordingly whereby, the findings of the study indicated the following; The study discovered that there are forms of communication used in Hormuud telecom in Mogadishu, including downward, upward, horizontal, verbal and written. The effects of communication on performance are increased efficiency, increased quality, increased customer responsiveness and innovation. The study also discovered the barriers to effective communication are language barriers, emotions, channel barriers and stereotyping.
In conclusion, there are different forms of communication used in Hormuud telecom in Mogadishu, including upward, downward and horizontal communication has both negative and positive consequences on employee performance and there are some barriers to effective communication in Hormuud telecom in Mogadishu, in the solution of above barriers can be use of simplified language, giving feedback, avoiding use of jargons, promoting trust and so on.
The recommendations of the study were that the company should use words which are clearly understood, the employees to interact easily with the management of the company and there should a system of giving feedback to employees.
