Abstract
The research topic was on challenges facing the education of the hearing impaired
/earners in schools in Masinga Division. In chapter one, the researcher came up with
the statement of the problem and the objectives of the study. In chapter two -
literature review the researcher defined the term hearing impairment stated the
causes and the types of hearing impairment. In this chapter the researcher noted the
characteristics, which enables one to identify a learner with hearing impairment; this
chapter also stated what other people say about the hearing impaired both in Africa
and other countries of the world.
In chapter three the researcher used a descriptive design to collect data from
various respondents. Questionnaires were used which he sent to four head
teachers, eight teachers, eight parents and twenty learners.
In chapter four the four the researcher analyzed all responses from head teachers,
teachers parents and learners in tabular form. The researcher was to find out the
challenges facing the education of hearing impaired learners in schools within
Masinga Division. From the analysis it was shown that the enrolment of the four
schools was between 100 - 500 learners and all schools had enough teachers but
the teachers had no experience on how to handle learners with hearing impairment
except those teachers who are undergoing distance learning in special needs
education.
