Abstract
The research was carried out on the contributions of UPE of Girl child. It was carried out in
Bukwo Distric. It was intended to find o•t how UPE impact has contributing to development of•
communities, the challenges faced by a girl child and what can be done to improve on the
performance of UPE in Bukwo District.
The study used a descriptive research design and targeted local people, education administrators
and the school going children. Data was collected using questionnaires and interview guides and
this data was analyzed using thematic analysis in line with the objectives of the study.
The study established that UPE had resulted into reduced illiteracy, created employment,
construction of infrastructures and population control. The many faced girl child challenges that
included lack of trust from the parents, lack of enough resources and poor performance of both
boy and girl children as well as high school dropout rates.
These were being improved through proper funding, training teachers and sensitizing the
communities on the need for keeping children in schools.
Therefore, communities as well as other stake holders in development should be supportive to
the development of the education sector starting at the primary level so that education can
promote peoples development through knowledge and skill development
