dc.description.abstractCouples Voluntary Counseling and Testing (CVCT) is an effective HIV prevention strategy for couples who represent the largest risk group in Africa. Of the estimated 100 infections per day in many African countries 70% occurs in cohabiting couples. In Uganda, there are only few couple based VCT studies conducted. Narrowing the gap of knowledge in these matters will help as a baseline for other studies. Furthermore it helps in forming strategies and specific interventions to deal with drawback of CVCT program. The aim of this study was to determine the magnitude of couples coming to VCT centers and to assess the factors associated with use and nonuse of CVCT services in Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted in which data was collected using standard interview questions. To explain the study population in relation to relevant variables, frequencies and summary statistics were used. Result: CVCT utilization among couples in Bushenyi-Ishaka municipality is 7.5% The prevalence of couples VCT service utilization in Bushenyi-Ishaka municipality is low. Frequent, clear and accurate media based information programs using multiple languages are needed to increase access to information on VCT, with particular attention to the importance of VCT for couples. And other Specific approaches to promote CVCT service are needed to be developed service through appropriate researchesen_US
