Abstract
There has been high expenditure by the government and Non Governmental Organizations
on maternal mortality rate as a way to reduce maternal
mortality rate. As a result, I investigated the impact of maternal mortality rate in
North Pokot District.
The study involved both quantitative and qualitative methods. The technique
sampling was also used to collect the data with a sample size of 50 respondents. The
instruments of data collection included, self administered questionnaires, focused
group discussions and interviewing.
From the study findings, it shows that the causes of natural disasters include, limited
sensitization, poor farming methods, high population growth rates, cutting of tree. It
was also found out that the impacts of natural disasters includes, destruction of
infrastructures ,destruction of properties ,diseases outbreak, death of people.
The solutions of natural disasters include, planting of trees in hilly areas, improve
infrastructures, increase awareness and sensitization, resettling of people to other
areas.
The conclusions includes, existence of a pre-disaster social protection system, quick
policy responses and innovative approaches in both financing and delivery of social
protection farmers, reallocating the local government personnel and local cadres,
severely damaged social protection institutions have restored functionality in a very
short period of time by intensifying the use of surviving resources, there can be lack
of personnel and lack of communication and transportation means for social
protection agencies to perform normally, the government should address those
concerns including corruption and misallocation of resources meant for the disasters.
