| dc.description.abstract | This study sought to find out the issues affecting the Women's right which includes: gender based domestic violence, discrimination, polygamy, FGM and right to own property. The research also resorts to investigate the possible solution to those issues. The selection and identification of groups of people was based on random selection of the four communities (Bomachoge, Boitangare, Bokinami and Bonyangande) to represent the entire population ofGucha County. The results of the study show that there is a growing recognition that Kenya just like any other country cannot reach its full potential to allow women to participate fully in their society. Data on the social, economic and health cost of violence leaves no doubt that violence against women undermines progress towards human and economic development. Women's participation has become key in all social development programs, be they environmental for poverty alleviation, or for good governance. By curtailing full involvement and participation of women, countries are eroding the human capital of half their populations and thus true indicators of women empowerment should lie in the country's commitment to gender equality to eliminate violence and discrimination against women. The study recommended a need for; legal reform; awareness creation and empowerment of women; engaging cultural practices and supportive institutions; forming support groups to help the victims; the judiciary to be careful of the way they handle cases of violence; harmonization of land laws; improving on the literacy levels of the girls; and utilization of government bodies to raise awareness. It was concluded that although there is a law against domestic violence in Kenya, domestic violence still prevails. This necessitates addressing the loopholes that lead to its perpetration in order to effectively secure justice to victims of domestic violence. | en_US |
