The objective of this study was to assess the living conditions associated with the performance in physics of students in secondary schools in Magale sub county. The assessment was made by characteristics of the students’ living conditions that is feeding, sanitation and accommodation. Using primary data based on a sample of 180 candidate students from Magale secondary school, Butiru Christian comprehensive secondary school, Magale parents secondary school and Bumbo secondary schools, across sectional survey design was adopted where data was obtained from students using questionnaires. The analysis was made using SPSS 16.0 at three levels of analysis based on 1 80 records of students. It involved use of frequency distribution, Pearson correlation coefficient, ANOVA and multiple linear regressions. In the results, an average of 6.47 points in the performance in physics shows a moderate performance among the students. In the multivariate analysis, students’ performance was significantly associated with the students’ living conditions that is feeding, sanitation and accommodation and the characteristics of students under sex (p<O,O5). 56.7% of the students’ performance in physics is explained by the variables involved in the study. In particular, students’ performance in physics increased with progressive increase in feeding, sanitation and accommodation. Male students had a higher performance in physics compared to female students. Students whose age was less than 14 years had a high performance in physics compared to students who are between one and two years. From the aboye conclusions, it was therefore recommended that in schools where living conditions were very poor, the school administration had to setup an agricultural and poultry farms to supplement on the ibod provided to improve on feeding. The school administration should also include health education on the school time table and also organize healthy talks to students. Lastly the Ministry of Education and Sports through the supervision unit should ensure that all schools in rural areas follow the guidelines on proper accommodation and financially support improvement of school facilities.en_US
