Abstract
The study was about teaching methods and learning abilities of the mild challenged learners in Eldama Ravine Division, Baringo County. It was guided by three objectives; to determine the quality of teaching strategies, to investigate the level of learning abilities, and to establish if there is a relationship between teaching Methods and learning abilities. The study employed descriptive correlation survey research design, using the quantitative approach. It employed a population of all 108 teachers. The researcher used the Adopted and standardized questionnaire from Robins, S. & David A. 2001 to collect data from the field. The study found out that male teachers are more than female ones, quality of teaching Methods was found to be satisfactory, and the level of learning abilities was found to be high. Based on the findings of the study, the following are recommended; that more teachers should be trained in the field of special education so as to handle learners with diversified educational needs including learners with emotional and behavioral disorders. Teachers should be given in-service training or given seminars to equip them with better teaching Methods as well as knowledge and skills of handling learners with mental impairment and behavioral disorders. Parents should be given seminars to teach them the importance of collaboration in protecting the children who are mentally retarded. The government should provide materials which are appropriate in the field of Special needs education.
