Abstract
The study sought to determine the effect of social media on political stability of Mogadishu Somalia. The study to examine the effect social media on civic engagement in Mogadishu Somalia, secondly to assess the effect of social media on electoral participation and finally to determine the effect of social media on political cooperation in Mogadishu Somalia. The study employed survey and interview in the collection of data, were data was attained from 325 through questionnaires and 8 qualitative respondents, data attained was analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively using descriptive and regression analysis and content analysis for qualitative data. The findings show that social media affect civic engagement in Mogadishu Somalia; the findings indicate that social media had a 22% effect on civil engagement in Mogadishu Somalia. The findings indicate that there exists a statistically significant effect of social media on civic engagement in Mogadishu Somalia. Secondly the study found that social media affect electoral participation in Mogadishu Somalia, the r coefficient was computed to be at 0.304. It was found that social media had a 30.4% effect on electoral participation in Mogadishu Somalia; the effect was statistically related between the variables in the study. Thirdly the study findings indicate that social media significantly affect the political cooperation in Mogadishu Somalia; it was found that social media had a 13.2% effect on political cooperation in Mogadishu Somalia. The study concludes that civil engagement has been less provided through social media in Mogadishu Somalia, It’s further concluded that social media start to develop the efficiency and effectiveness of civic engagements among the communities. Secondly the study conclude that social media is generative of the electoral participation amongst the people in Mogadishu Somalia. Thirdly the study findings conclude that the social media is significantly moderate in enabling the political cooperation agreements amongst the communities and persons in Mogadishu Somalia. The study recommend a policy directions developed in enabling functionality of the system of growth of civil societies; there is actual need for enabling the social media through policies to stimulate engagement of persons to stimulating the personnel development. Finally there is need for social cooperation in supporting the community awareness campaigns necessary in facilitating the development of social policies for the communities.
