Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between transformational leadership
style and teachers' performance in secondary schools in Fort Portal Municipality. The objectives
of the study were to establish the relationship between inspirational motivation, individual
consideration, intellectual stimulation, and idealized influence with performance of teachers in
secondary schools in Fort Portal Municipality. The study was carried out using correlation
design. The sample was comprised of 7 head teachers and 13 7 teachers. Questionnaires and
interviews were used to collect data. Regression analysis was used to establish the relationship
between transformational leadership style and teachers' performance in secondary schools in
Fort Portal Municipality.
The study revealed that by all aspects there was a significant and positive correlation between
three aspects of transformational leadership (inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation and
idealised inf1uence except individual consideration which had a negative but insignificant
cĀ·orrelation) style exhibited by the head teachers with teachers' performance. Generally, if all
nspects of transformational lead"!rship are practiced properly and concurrently in schools by the
head teachers it can have a greater contribution in improving performance of teachers. This study
recommends the need for the teachers to bridge the gap between the leadership and the students'
performance by taking advantage of the exhibited transformational head teachers in the
secondary schools in fort port municipality.
