Abstract
This research looked at factors influencing the role of women in Socio -Economic development. The dimensions of the study included the role of women in Socio - Economic activities, problems facing women and the role of NGOs in helping the women in the settlement. Overall objective was to stimulate the role of women in the Town Council by generating some income to help particularly the women to provide in the families. The study was conducted within five selected women groups' Owologa, young parents, Charaga, Dichiru and Hotel women group. These groups are located in the town Centre. The sample included women of ages between 15 and 49, staff of NGOs, widows which altogether comprised 50 respondents. The study was both qualitative and quantitative. Therefore multi-cluster group sampling was used to select five women groups in the District. Systematic random sampling was used to select the quantitative sample. The 50 respondents were purposively selected. Data collection was done by the researcher herself. The quantitative data, questionnaires were given to women with the help of the women leaders in the district who filled them in while getting some instructions from the researcher. The researcher interviewed the informants with the help of interview guides/schedule. The findings of the study showed that the problems facing women in their social economic development/activities are the major factors influencing the role of women in the District. It was followed by the roles of NGOs in helping the women in the District in order to settle or solve their problems by a greater percentage helping the government to reduce poverty in the District.
