Abstract
This study was about Extrinsic Factors and Teachers’ Interest in Work in Community Secondary Schools, Makete District, Tanzania. The purpose of the study was to test the null hypothesis that “There is no significant relationship between extrinsic factors and Teachers’ interest in work in Community secondary schools, Makete District, Tanzania”, to validate the Expectancy Theory, identifying gaps and generating new knowledge. The general objective of the study was to correlate extrinsic factors and teachers’ interest in work in community secondary schools in Makete District, Tanzania. The study Used the descriptive survey design adopting the descriptive correlation. Data was collected from 85 teachers randomly selected from the population of 109 community secondary school teachers. Frequency and percentage distribution, mean, and Pearson’s Linear Correlation Coefficient techniques were used to analyze data and presented in tables. The study established that there was a strong positive relationship between extrinsic factors and teachers’ interest in work. Extrinsic factors are low and they affect teachers’ interest in work. The study concludes that poor extrinsic factors have reduced the teachers’ interest for work in community secondary schools. The study recommends that extrinsic factors in all aspects in community secondary schools be improved to enhance teachers’ interest in work. Finally the researcher suggests that a study be conducted to determine better supervision, policy, administration systems and school environment that will enhance teachers’ interest in work.
