dc.description.abstractThe main purpose of the study was to identify and assess the causes and effects of teenage pregnancy on the academic performance of teenagers in Kasokwe sub-county Kaliro district, Namayingo district. The study was designed to achieve the following objectives; to identify and critically examine the personal and home environmental factors contributes to a high rate of teenage pregnancy, to exan1ine school based factors that contribute to teenage pregnancy and to ascertain the effects of teenage pregnancy on academic achievement of teenagers in Kasokwe subcounty. Data analysis and presentation was presented in tables, graphs and pie charts. The study established the individual and home environment factors influenced teenage pregnancy in schools, unavailability of parents, lack of time for parents to discuss sex matters with young ones, lax parental supervision and monitoring, and poverty were found to be crucial in elevating the level of risky sexual behavior among school girls. The study concluded that about a half of female students are at risk of teenage pregnancy as their teachers play a bigger role in promoting teenage pregnancy that leads to poor performance in class, high absenteeism and high school dropout. The study suggested promotion of the Youth Friendly Reproductive Health Services (YFRHS) for those who are sexually active, guidance and counseling department be strengthened at s·chool and sexual Education be included in academic syllabien_US
