dc.description.abstractABSTRACT This study investigated the relationship between human security threats and the refugee crisis in the Horn of Africa; A case of Eritrea. The Specific objectives were to examine how political security threats generated the refugee crisis of Eritrea; to establish the contribution of economic security threats to the refugee crisis of Eritrea; and to assess the influence of food insecurity threats the on refugee crisis of Eritrea. The target population of the study was 14,743 Eritrean refugees in Uganda which makes up the whole Eritreans officially registered refugee community in Kampala. The descriptive Correlational research design was used to determine whether and to what extent the relationship between two or more variables exist. The findings indicated that a strong and significant correlation coefficient of Pearson. 0.757 which means there is a strong relationship between political security threats and refugee crisis of Eritrea. It further indicated a strong and significant correlation coefficient of Pearson, 0.655. That would mean there is a strong relationship between Economic security threats and Refugee crisis of Eritrea which implied that Economic security threats affected the Refugee crisis of Eritrea by 68.4% and other factors contribute only 31.6%. And lastly, the findings further informed a strong and significant correlation coefficient of Pearson is 0.594. To imply that, there is a strong relationship between Food insecurity threats and Refugee Crisis of Eritrea. Hence, Food insecurity threats affected negatively in causing Refugee Crisis of Eritrea. Conclusively, the study resolved that a strong and significant correlation coefficient of Pearson. 0.757. Furthermore, there was a strong and significant relationship between Economic security threats and Refugee Crisis indicated by R2 of 0.663 that informs, the Economic security threats predicted 66.3% of the variance in Refugee Crisis of Eritrea, whereas other factors are at 33.7%. Moreover, the study concluded that Food Insecurity threat is a serious causal factor which influences Refugee crisis of Eritrea implying that an average number of the respondents agreed that Food insecurity threats influenced the Refugee Crisis of Eritrea. Finally, in resolving the identified human security threats, the study recommends measures which are people-centered, multi-sectorial, comprehensive, context-specific, and prevention-orienteden_US
