Labor turnover and organizational performance: a case study of St.Kizito Hospital-Matany

Shortage of human resource for health poses a major challenge to achieving the Millennium Development Goals. Uganda is among the 57 counties with human resource shortage reaching critical level. But the situation is even worse at micro-levels. The Private-Not-For-Profit (PNFP) health sub-sectors complements government efforts to achieve the MDGs, the health strategic plan II (HSSPII) and the health related poverty eradication plan (PEAP) indicators. Uganda Catholic Medical Bureau (UCMB) coordinates the Roman Catholic health facilities network, one of the three PNFP networks in Uganda which St.Kizito Hospital-Matany belongs. This paper looks at the relationship between labor turnover and performance as experienced by the UCMB network giving the trend, examining the reasons, destinations of attrition cases and what the network has to do to improve the human resource stability. The information is based on the research that was carried out at St.Kizito Hospital-Matany in Napak District, Karamoja Sub Region.
