Abstract
The economic status of parents and pupils performance in Kucwiny Sub-county was assessed in this study. The aim of the study was to investigate whether parent’s poor economic status had an impact on pupil’s performance in the primary schools of Kucwiny Sub-county. The data for the study were gathered by the use of the questionnaires and interview guide. Thirty five (35) respondents were randomly selected from four schools who were involved in the study. The four schools were randomly selected from the 12 schools in Kucwiny Sub-county. The data collected was analyzed and presented in table and graphs for easy interpretation and understanding. Some figures were presented in percentage to show the mangnititude of their contribution towards the aspects tested. The study indicated that the main cause of the dropout in the schools was lack of pättntal care which has the highest percentage (100%) this was followed by early marriages (44%) on pupils performance absenteeism was found to be the main cause of poor performance in the schools (80%) this was followed by the lack of parental care and guidance (50%) it was discovered that children attended school irregularly because they were never encouraged or supported by their parents thus leading to poor performance. The worst impacts of poor economic status on pupils were found to be drug abuse (80%) and sex for money (60%) which in most cases resulted in to unwanted pregnancies and early marriages and then the consequential dropout of pupils from the school.
