| dc.description.abstract | The study explores the topic: Reproductive health services and women with disabilities. The main purpose of the study is to analyze the accessibility of women with disabilities to reproductive health services. The study is guided by three specific objectives, thus: To establish the extent to which people with impairments access reproductive health service; to find out the channels used in dissemination of reproductive health information and other services by programmers in the area of study; and to investigate how affordable the reproductive health services by the women with disabilities. The collection of data was through a number of cut-crossing methods and instruments that included: questionnaires, interview with the help of interview guides; observation guided by observation check lists; pupil result records; and pupil attendance lists. The purpose of use of multiple methods to collect data was to ensure consistence and reliability of the study findings. The major findings of the study were: This distance remained the same and affected all people within the community, an indication that RH services were not very accessible to people with disabilities as much as they were not to disabled people. The situation of access of RH services was reflected in insignificant numbers of women who accessed safe mother hood services like anti-natal care, delivery, post-natal and the increased relevancy on T.B. As and relative as their source of RH information and other services. The negative perception that surrounded their image as women with disabilities can be associated with patriarchal tendencies that socialize females to believe that woman’s attractiveness resides in the attractiveness of their bodies. Since this perception may not apply especially to severely physically disabled women, it created feelings of imperfection in minds of these women consequently affecting their confidence. Such stereotypes however innocuous they seem to be exerted a considerable influence on the women whom they labeled. | en_US |
