dc.description.abstractThe study aimed at critical appraisal of the fish act cap 197 (2000) in respect of Ggaba areas in lake Victoria in Uganda. Fishing allover the world is a major source of food for humanity and a provider of employment and economic benefits to those engaged in the activity. However, with increased knowledge and the dynamic development of fisheries. Much has already been written on the Fish Act no 197 of 2000 by different people at different times in different reports, surveys and discussions in the different places as well as in different places both in Uganda, east Africa and international wise. The Fish Act further provides that any person who uses any vessel in any waters of Uganda unless with valid fishing license to fish either with long lines or with nets or any other methods or fishes. from any such licensed vessel but using any unauthorized method declared so by the Chief Fisheries Officer commits an offense. Therefore, if a vessel is licensed, the owner shall before using it or causing it to be used to fish, have the registration letters and serial numbers assigned to him or her to be painted on the vessel in the prescribed manner.1en_US
