Abstract
This work is centered on “The effect of learning environment on academic performance of
learners in primary schools in Dadamu Sub-County.” The study was based on three objectives
which were as follows; a) To establish the effect of learning environment on academic performance of learners in
Dadamu Sub-county, Arua District.
b) To find out the challenges of learning environment on academic performance of learners
in Dadamu Sub-county, Arua District.
c) To identify the solutions to the challenges of learning environment in Dadamu Sub
county.
The study design used was cross sectional survey and descriptive survey in order to reflect both
quantitative and qualitative design. The simple random sampling, stratified sampling and
purpose random sampling techniques were used. The study population involved was teachers,
School Management Committees (SMC), Parent, local Council, and pupils. The instruments of
data collection used were questionnaire, interview and observation. The data was analysed by
using tables, graphs and percentages objective by objective. The data was coded, tabulated and
edited and analyzed to give inferential interpretation to population. The study concluded that the
quite environment keeps the mind of the learners in school and attracts others to join the school
and the learning environment results to turn over attendance in school which later can cause lack
of interest in studies and how commitment of learners in school. It was recommended that the
methodology of teaching and learning should be challenged in order to accommodate the bad
teaching environment to improve performance and the turn over attendance can be solved by
passing bylaws in order to control the community and the environment good for teaching and
learning.
