Abstract
This study explored the determinants of academic performance in some selected
secondary schools in Nandi-East District in Kenya. In this manner, the study was guided
by four objectives; establishing the profile of the respondents, the level of the
determinants of academic performance, establishing the level of academic performance
of the students and finding the relationship between the two variables, The study
employed descriptive corre[ational survey research design using a sample of 231 form
four students from the selected three secondary schools. The study discovered that the
level of determinants of academic performance is fair. The study also found that the
level of academic performance in Nandi East District schools is low. The study further
discovered a significant positive relationship between the level of determinants of
academic performance and the level of academic performance. The researcher
recommended that administrative policies in some of the schools should be done,
academic committee should be established in every school, parents should be informed
to watch over their children’s academic performance, issues regarding teachers’
rewards should also be addressed and the administration should provide basic
education facilities and employ skilled and trained teachers.
