| dc.description.abstract | The topic of the study was community initiatives and safe water provision in Midia Subcounty: a case study of Midia sub-county in Koboko district. The objectives of the study were: to examine the various community initiatives in the provision of safe water in Midia Sub-county, Koboko district; to establish factors that influence the effectiveness of community initiatives in safe water provision and to assess the challenges faced by community initiatives in safe water provision in Midia Sub-county., This research employed descriptive designs such as cross sectional design and also used case study design. The findings revealed the following: ,local leadership works in conjunction with the political authorities to provide safe water which indicates that there is need to have a good conjunction between local leadership and political authorities; that government officials liaise with local leaders in drawing interventions in community water provision and financing for safe water provision is in line with the local initiatives set up by the community and that Community initiative is important in ensuring equitable distribution and access to water resources. It can be concluded that local leadership works in conjunction with the political authorities to provide safe water which indicates that there is need to have a good conjunction between local leadership and political authorities. It can also be concluded that government officials liaise with local leaders in drawing interventions in community water provision and financing for safe water provision is in line with the local initiatives set up by the community. And that Community initiative is important in ensuring equitable distribution and access to water resources. The researcher recommends to the government that it should emphasize these factors that have influence on co:nmunity initiatives for safe water provision so as to enable provision of safe water to the community; it should put rules and regulations that govern proper use of the water by the community members should come up with ways of how to involve community in the activities that concerns provision of water; regular meetings should be put in place to discuss about maintenance of water sources; provision technical personnel who has knowledge in water maintenance so as to be looking after the water sources. | en_US |
