Abstract
The pmpose of the study was to examine the impact of poverty on academic performance
of learners. The objective was to establish the relationship between poverty and learners
academic perfmmance.
The researcher used cross-sectional survey design to analyze a large sample. Both
quantitative and qualitative were used.
A simple random sampling design was used to select from 5 school .A totals of 40
respondents is expected to be obtained.
Data was collected using a questionnaire guide which was more appropriate in getting
data amongst the respondents.
The finding indicated that majority of the leamers are affected with poverty which affects
their academic performance. the finding also revealed that pove1iy has impacted on
learners attitude towards studying and commitment hence poor performance.
The researcher recommended the selected schools to help the leamers with basic needs in
order to improve their academic performance.
