dc.description.abstractThis study established the effect of staff development programmes on performance of Non-Government Organisations in Uganda and especially Kampala District, three specific objectives guided this study and these were i) examining staff development programmes in NGOs in Kampala district, Uganda; ii) assessing the performance of NGOs in Kampala district Uganda, and (iii) establishing the effect of staff development on performance of NGOs in Uganda. This research used a descriptive correlation design to describe the relationship between staff development and performance of NGOs. The study used a population of 148 and a sample size of 108. Questionnaires were used for reaching respondents who were randomly selected to be part of the study and the data collected was organized and analyzed to generate information which came from the research. The findings revealed the following: staff development was rated satisfactory, hence indicating that the employees in the selected NGOs in Kampala district, Uganda are effectively trained, empowered and have a right to participate on issues concerning the Organisation, the performance of NGOs was rated satisfactory, hence indicating that the selected NGOs in Kampala district always perform their duties through implementing programmes effectively, acquiring quality outcomes and accomplishing of projects the way required by their funders, the findings indicated a positive and significant relationship between staff development and staff performance of NGOs in Kampala district, Uganda, and hence implying that improvement in staff development activities increases the level of performance of NGOs in Kampala district, Uganda. The researcher concluded that; employees in the selected NGOs in Kampala district, Uganda are effectively trained, empowered and have a right to participate on issues concerning the Organization, the selected NGOs in Kampala district always perform their duties through implementing programmes effectively, acquiring quality outcomes and accomplishing of projects the way required by their funders, and lastly improvement in staff development programmes, also increases the performance of NGOs in Kampala district, Uganda, and among all the aspects of staff development, training accounted for the biggest influence on performance of NGOs.en_US
