Abstract
The millimeter wave (mm Wave) spectrum will be used by the next wireless sensor networks (WSNs) for wireless communication. The goal is to utilize the underutilized spectrum between the 30GHz and 300GHz band in order to prevent spectrum shortages and reduce traffic congestion in WSNs caused by bandwidth-hungry applications and services. Due to concerns with shadowing, blocking effects, and propagation losses related to atmospheric influence from rain and oxygen, mmWave deployment in WSNs for remote monitoring applications in outdoor locations is still a challenge. Using a two-split mix of analog beamforming and hybrid analog/digital beamforming, this study suggests the best beamforming approach to be used in mmWave WSNs for remote monitoring applications in order to counteract the extra propagation losses in mmWave outdoor conditions. Additionally, a relay-assisted mmWave WSN is suggested for signal transmission and receiving in order to counteract the signal fading effect brought on by obstructions. The results obtained from the study shows an improved beamforming gain that could offset the additional losses that occur in mmWave WSN outdoor environment and these results can guarantee improved connectivity and dependability when used in mmWave WSNs for remote monitoring applications in outdoor settings in the unlicensed, underutilized 60 GHz mmWave band.
