Challenges faced by gifted and talented learners in regular public primary schools in bondo zone, Migori district (Kenya)

The major purpose of this study was to investigate the challenges faced by the gifted and talented learners in regular primary schools in Bondo Zone, Migori District. Quantitative approach using questionnaires used to collect data for the study. Twenty teachers and six Head teachers from six regular primary schools took part in the study. The findings of the study show that most teachers understand learners who are gifted and talented but their needs are overlooked. Since they behave differently and are of different categories their education does not arouse prompt professional favor. The differences that exist among these learners cause them to learn at different rates to succeed or to fail or to be bored in school. The positive response of the respondents on the regular educational programme is revealed and therefore the teachers’ commitment is required for the provision of special attention to these learners for them to excel. Teachers and other stakeholders who work with these learners need special training and the government should put in place a good policy governing the educational placement for learners who are gifted and talented.
