Although the Kenyan government is putting a lot of effort in ensuring that every child has a right to education, many children are still not exposed to education. Most parents continue holding to the old notion that children with intellectual challenges are non— performers. Many parents are completely carried away by alcohol brewing and consumption thus having no time to educate and take care of their children. The most neglected are children with intellectual challenges. It is with this in mind that the researcher sets out to investigate on the effects of parents’, alcohol consumption on education of learners with intellectual challenges. The researcher used survey as the research design. Questionnaires were used as tools or instruments. The researcher • targeted teachers from twenty primary schools in the division, two units for intellectually challenged and one special school for the intellectually challenged learners. The researcher issued out seventy questionnaires to the respondents. Out of these, fifty questionnaires were answered and returned by the respondents. The raw data collected was analyzed and well tabulated. The collected data showed that there were more boy~ than girls with intellectual challenges. These children never got the required support from their parents since most of them were alcoholics. Most parents remained ignorant on the needs of these learners due to lack of enlightment. The district officers, the chiefs and the sub chiefs in the division are putting a lot of efforts in curbing alcohol brewing and consumption. The research findings have enabled the researcher to make several recommendations to various disciplines. The researcher concluded by stating that learners with intellectual challenges can be transformed to useful members in the society if they are given a chance to education.en_US
