dc.description.abstract | This study investigated the extent to which the indicators (Mathematics Teachers' Qualification, Facilities for teaching Mathematics and SocioEconomic Status of Parents) determined the performance of secondary school students in Mathematics in Sudan School Certificate (SSC) in Central Equatoria State, South Sudan between 2005 and 2009 school years. The study was conducted under a descriptive survey research design. This was to establish the situation of existing conditions in 6 schools out of 49 secondary schools in the state which were randomly selected for the study. Questionnaires and interview guide were the instruments used for collection of the data in both Urban and Rural schools of the area covered by the study. Four research questions were answered. Frequencies, Percentages, Mean and Pearson Moment Correlation were used for data analysis. Findings revealed that the state of students' performance in Mathematics was poor with the Mean of (x=45.8) as the average performance of students in Mathematics. The effect of Mathematics teachers' qualification on students' performance has a positive relationship of (r=0.779). The state of facilities for teaching Mathematics was found low (4.97%). There was a significant relationship between Socio-Economic Status and Academic Performance (r=0.940).These findings are of great significance to educational planners, policy makers and both federal and state governments. It is recommended that these indicators have to be taken into consideration while planning and providing for secondary education. | en_US |
