This study is an inspired effort to examine the ole of gender in the utilization and conservation of medicinal plants in Mt. Elgon National Park. The role of gender in the conservation and utilization of medicinal plants has been a debatable issue over a long period of time. By design, this was a descriptive and cross sectional qualitative study whose results were based on both primary and secondary sources of data supplemented by research tools as structured questionnaires, interview schedules and checklists, The Researcher employed a simple random sampling method to examine the role of gender in the utilisation and conservation of medicinal plants in Mt. Elgon National Park. It was observed during the study that women play a major role in medicinal plants harvest and conservation because they are traditionally tasked with looking after the sick and injured members of their household. According to the study, 65% of the women showed adequate knowledge of medicinal plants compared to their male counterparts who comprised 35%. The factors affecting the participation of women and men in the conservation and utilization of medicinal plants include; Domestic roles, gender concepts, occupation, poverty and sensitization.en_US
