The research was conducted to study the effects of pollution its prevention, and challenges in urban environment in case study of Kampala central division The following forms of pollution were studied (Air, Water, and Land). Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into a natural environment that causes instability, disorder, harm or discomfort to the ecosystem i.e. physical systems or living organisms. Within the Kampala Central Division there are a good number human activities that pollute the environment these include: factories, transport systems and congested constrictions. This is a great producer of pollutants in process. The study involved the selection of one parish ~NAKIVUBO parish) out of the 20 parish and only four zones out of the nine zones found in Nakivubo (Nakasero Market, Munno A, Munno B, Salompas A). The Methodology was composed of Research design, types and source of data, methods of data collection, data processing, presentation and analysis of the findings and limitations, Research Design was cross-sectional design where data was collected over a couple of weeks. The research used two main approaches; participatory approaches and questionnaire survey. In each of the selected four zones, (Nakasero Market, Munno A, Munno B, Salompas A,) only one location was identified for the study. The limitation of the study involved access to information, access to the resources, time management, access for editing proof reading and guidance and support from organization and participants. Many respondents said that ignorance and lack of environmental awareness was the biggest challenge. The prevention measures of pollution in urban environment were Awareness and environmental education while the harmful effects of pollution in urban environment were mainly affecting Human Health. The public should be informed and consulted in the evaluation of the health and environmental effects of substances and activities; some respondents noted that many times KCCA does not involve them in critical matters that concern them; for example mainly construction activities, many times buildings are raised without any public consenten_US
