| dc.description.abstract | This study was intended to assess the stability of local NGOs, and their influence on peace building projects in Mogadishu, Somalia. Specific objectives of the study were; to investigate. the level of peace building in the selected local NGOs in Mogadishu, to establish the level of stability in the selected local NGOs in Mogadishu and to determine whether there is a significant relationship between level of the peace building and stability in selected local NGOs in Mogadishu, Somalia. For a research design, descriptive survey and descriptive correlation designs were employed by taking questionnaires as a research instrument. To carry out the research, a sample size of 122 was drawn from the target population of the study. Statistical packages for social science (SPSS) were used to analyze variables and constructs of the research. Findings of the study with reference to research objectives, the findings of the study indicated that the Somali local NGOs have been more encouraging to national participation in the reconciliation process and economic development compared to security activities and politics. Community elders, youths and women and religious leaders have come up and enabled more participation in peace building, stability, reconciliation, and economic development. In the case of the institutional culture of peace institutions in Somalia, its implications on local NGO's role are divergent according to individual institutions some of which are largely believed to have promoted youth and women's participation in security, the new government of the Federal Republic of Somalia (FRS) is so far appreciated by the majority to have promoted peace and stability in national politics, reconciliation and development and the humanitarian agencies are widely believed to have involved in relief activities. It was therefore recommended that; The Federal Government of Somalia and international humanitarian agencies have an obligation to support local NGOs in their efforts to promote peace and stability. Government should strengthen institutions and enforce interventions for violence in all aspects of political, economic and socio-economic development | en_US |
