This study was conducted to establish the effects of pupils' perception on the academic performance of mathematics subject in Luuria Primary school. After the pupils academic performance remained low for a long time then the researcher suspected that pupils' perception towards mathematics subject could be a major cause of the low performance. In this study, the researcher therefore has tried to find out how learners perceive mathematics subject in terms of learning/teaching resources, teaching methods, teachers' attitudes and the teacher/ pupil relationship. According to the previous literature, the performance of a subject lies under these four main areas. The researcher is in total agreement with the views of these writers because the findings of this research proves so. The researcher used a survey method to carry out the study. He used seventy (70) learners who were sampled from standard six (6) to eight (8). The respondents filled questionnaires which they added in after a few days. The results indicate that pupils have a wrong perception towards mathematics subject which results to the poor academic performance in this subject. This is so because the findings show that teaching/learning resources are not effectively used. Teachers' methods of approaching mathematics lessons are also poor which is a major cause of learners' negative attitude towards the subject and these results to poor performance. The researcher therefore recommends that teachers and other stakeholders in education to intervene promptly to ensure performance in terms of the four areas of study is improved in order to change the attitude of pupils towards mathematics. This will enable pupils to perform well academically.en_US
