dc.description.abstractThe study was carried out to evaluate the role of community integration in the management of development projects in Kigali city, Rwanda. The main aim of the research was therefore to find out benefits of community participation in rural development initiatives. The study was guided by the following objectives: To assess the benefits accruing from community integration the management of development projects, to examine the factors that enhances community integration in the management of development projects, to identify the challenges faced in the implementation and management of community development projects and to identify strategies to the challenges faced in the implementation and management of community development projects. Study design The study was cross sectional in nature that is; survey design was used to collect data from various respondents. Qualitative methods such as interviews, questionnaires were used because of the descriptive nature of the study. It was evaluated that in order to reach all sectors of the rural population, the government should utilize a variety of organizational modalities, such as small informal groups, traditional community associations, cooperatives, unions, among others. Mobilization of rural communities to achieve sustainable rural development objectives using participatory approaches acting through existing or through new rural community organizations. Mobilization activities should be focused on satisfying community needs and produce tangible benefits for those involved. The recommendations expressed in the study show that in Rwanda, community based organizations, the government among others should be very instrumental in helping rural communities exercise their social, economic and political rights through advocacy and providing favorable legislations and polices Towards this end, the government should establish a legal framework which provides a basis for free association of rural people in organizations of their choice.en_US
