dc.description.abstract | This study investigated the impact of family background and school attendance on academic performance. The general objective of the study was to identify how family background and school attendance effect academic performance in secondary schools of Kenya. The specific objectives were: to examine the relationship between family background and academic achievement of students, establish the relationship between nutrition/illness and student’s performance, and analyze the effect of school attendance on academic achievements of students. The research employed a descriptive survey design which aided in generation of numerical and qualitative data. The target population was 8000 students and 200 teachers. The sample size of the study consisted of 100 respondents, selected purposively. The research instruments used to collect data were questionnaires, interview guides and observation. The findings of the study revealed that family background, school attendance, child health and nutrition all have contributed greatly in the academic performance of students. | en_US |
