Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the Pathways through which Drought has impacted the educational attainment of pupils, in Mwingi Zone, Central Division, Mwingi District. The following objectives guided the study. To investigate the relationship between drought and attainment of pupils in Mwingi Zone, Central Division and to investigate the role of the community in alleviating drought and improving primary school pupil's attainment in Mwingi zone. The methods for data collection was questionnaires to the members of staff and students of the schools, involved in the study. Tlie findings were presented and interpreted in relation to the study objectives and research questions while linking to the existing literature, results included demographic characteristics, frequency and percentages based on the findings it was observed that drought affected attainment of students negatively. In chapter jive development of solutions was attempted. The finding suggested diversification of income generating activities requires some amount of input in terms of finances which otherwise may not be readily available in most drought stricken schools. Approaching financial institution to advance loans to finance feasible income generating activities may be explored. School leaders should embrace school base management and develop the knowledge base associated with efficiency and effectiveness in school management for the purpose of achieving the educational goals for the learners. Owing impact of drought in provision of education, school governing structures should strategize on school aspect which needs more emphasis compared to others to meet the expectations and interests of the most important constituents- students.
