Abstract
The study investigated the factors affecting motivation and teachers’ performance in Wakiso
Municipality Secondary Schools.
The objectives of the study included to examine ways of motivating teachers in secondary
schools in Wakiso Municipality, to identify the challenges faced by teachers in Wakiso
Municipality and to find out the possible measures to reduce on the challenges faced by teachers
in Wakiso Municipality.
The research methodology included a cross sectional design together with qualitative and
quantitative design and the instruments used in collecting data were the observation, recording,
questionnaire. interview guide and focus group discussions.
The findings of the study showed that there are solutions to the problems faced with teachers in
Wakiso Municipality secondary schools among which include the cooperation of parents with
teachers. administration and the good behavior of students, getting salary in time and also
receiving teaching materials in time.
Major recommendations from the study were, the government of the Republic of Uganda should
put much more emphasis on the Universal Secondary Education (USE) so as they get good
standards like the private secondary schools. The government officials most especially under the
ministry of education should put more policies governing public secondary schools and follow
(monitor) them so as to improve on their performance. Also parents in secondary level most
especially those in Wakiso district to cater for their children because this is the level under which
the student go into adolescent and sometimes drop out from school because ofthe impacts.
The study concluded hence further that the researcher was able to learn new things which he did
not know at first, this help him alio to improve on his communication skills, interpersonal skills
and on his relationship between different people, he learnt different ways of motivating teachers
and how a teacher can perform well in all conditions.
