Abstract
The research carried out the study on challenges to the realization of children's right to freedom of expression, a case study in Kabale District. The reason as to why I choose this topic was because often times children's rights have been suppressed such as the right to freedom of expression under the guise of parental responsibilities. The aims of objectives were divided into two groups. The general objective was to establish the challenges faced in the protection and realization of the children's right to freedom of expression. The specific objectives among others were; To find out whether children understand their right to freedom of expression To find out practices that encourage the violation of children's right to freedom of expression To assess the parents' understanding of the right to freedom of expression of children with respect to age. All this is entailed in chapter one. Chapter two basically discusses literature review on children's rights. Chapter three discussed the Research Methodology that was used to collect data and chapter four discussed the findings of the research study, where it was generally observed that Children's right to freedom of expression was hindered by cultural practices, parents looking at children as not competent, ill informed and inunature a among others. Conclusion: It is very clear that different people have different attitudes concerning children's rights. The provisions are there but on the ground the practice is far from what is documented. The researcher faced challenges in obtaining this information such as the cost of the project was expensive, the time spent in obtaining the information and the availability of books and updated materials on the subject was quite stressing.
