Abstract
The study set out too investigates on the "'impact of appraisal on the employee performance among the civil servants, case study of Kisoko Sub-County, Tororo District Three objectives guided the study these are (i) to identify the types of performance appraisals in civil service, (ii) to examine the extent to which performance appraisal has impacted on employee performance and (iii) to identify the challenges faced by the appraisers. Research methodology, descriptive survey was used characterized by quantitative which was important while presenting the information. Findings, males dominated the study; the respondents all had qualification as they were civil servants. It was found out that there are many types of appraisal styles but civil servants were not aware of the existence of most of them. It was also found that appraisal creates positive impact in the working environment, it was found out that most appraisers have no skills that were to be used while doing appraisal. The mitigative strategy of the challenges is having the appraisers trained in how to do the work. Conclusion, it is concluded that most of the staff do not know the appraisal methods used in civil service performance appraisal leads to the promotion of staff and improvement in quality of performance as well as increment in output As far as challenges are concemed, it is concluded that appraiser lack skills to be used in appraising staff. To overcome this training of the appraiser is called for. Recommendation, staff should be trained in appraisal techniques. The staff should be trained in the merits of appraisal managers should be rewarded for the work done, they should also be reliable for the action done by them. The performance must also be done considering the multiple years.
