Abstract
This research was carried out to investigate the
impact of training on employee performance taking
Electricity Supply Commission as a case study.
Organizations with a positive training philosophy
understand that they live in a world where
competitive advantage is achieved by having high
quality people that other firms employ and this may
not be satisfied unless they invest in developing the
skills and competence of their people. Training
improves, changes, moulds the employees
knowledge, skills, behavior, aptitudes, and attitudes
towards the requirements of the job and the
organization. The researcher investigated the impact
of training to employee training at Escom Uganda
Limited.
General objective was to investigate the impact of
training on employee performance at Escom Uganda
Limited. The specific objectives were to identify,
whether training programs are appropriate and
relevant to the staff of Escom Uganda Limited, to
examine the impact of training on employee
performance at Escom Uganda Limited and to
recommend to management on how best training
programs can be managed at Escom Uganda Limited.
The research was conducted at Escom Uganda
Limited which is located along at Crusader house,
Jinja road, Kampala Uganda. The study will
vu
investigate the impact of training on employee
performance.
Off-the-job training took place on special courses or
in training areas or centres which were specially
equipped and staffed for training. It was the best
way to acquire advanced manual, office, customer
service, or selling skills, and to learn about company
procedures and products. On-the job training
consisted of teaching or coaching by managers, team
leaders or trainers at the desk or at the bench. It
was also consisting of individual or group assignment
and project and the use of mentors.
The findings of the research show that 80% of the
employees strongly agree and 20% agree on the
statement that professionalism and training is part
and parcel of Eskom Uganda Limited. The researcher
strongly recommends the following to the
management of Eskom Uganda Limited as far as
training of employees is concerned.
Higher performance; training helps to improve the
quality and quantity of output; therefore, more
training programs of both on-the-job and off-the-job
methods are concerned are highly recommended for
the prosperity of the performance of employees
develop the skills and competence of employees and
improve their performance.
Help people to grow within the organization in order
that, as far as possible, its future need for human
resources can be met from within.
