Abstract
This study examined the level of electronic resources utilization at Kampala International University Library by postgraduate students by addressing five objectives: To examine the
degree of use of e-resources by postgraduate students at Kampala International University
Library; to examine the factors affecting effective utilization of electronic resources for
postgraduate studies; to examine the impact oi the utilization of e-resources on post-graduate
studies in Kampala International University; to examine the conduciveness of Kampala
International University library space with respect to c-resources access aiid retrieval; to examine
the relationship between the determinants of electronic resources usage and competency of using
c-resources; and to come up with a proposal for a more effective and efficient electronic retrieval
system.
Statement of problem is that, Electronic information resources offer access to adequate, relevant
and timely literature. In postgraduate library, according to IBM library user survey report (2015),
it was observed that a majority of postgraduate students at Kampala International University
were not utilising c-resources for their studies due to the problem of low bandwidth, power
fluctuation, and lack of knowledge on different searching technique such as truncation, searching
by key terms among others. The purpose of the study therefore was to find out the challenges and

solutions to effective utilisation of Kampala International University Library e-resources by
Postgraduate students.
Both quantitative and qualitative methods were employed to elicit data from library staff and
postgraduate students of Kampala Internation~J University Data was analyzed using SPSS,
summarized, presented and interpreted using frequency tables and percentage distribution
relationship. Eighty respondents participated in the study. Data was collected by use of
questionnaires and interview guide. based on the findings, the study revealed that same
postgraduate do not utilize Kampala International University Library c-resources at their
maximum, The study also found out that utilization of c-resources was not only affected by
unstable internet and low internet connectivity, but also inadequate publicity of c-resources, few
c-resource computers, the study also revealed that c-resource had tremendous impact on the
academic performance of postgraduate students. The less utilization of c-resources among
postgraduate indicated that a lot need to be done to increase c-resources utilization.
Conclusions are that; based on the findings of the study, the researcher concluded that the
utilisation of c-resources had incredible impact on the academic performance of postgraduate
students of Kampala International University, however, there was need to improve Kampala
International University Library internet and also the need for the postgraduate to acquire more
skills in the use of c-resources. Therefore, the study recommends that Information literacy should

be incorporated within Kampala International University postgraduate academic programs,
Academic staff should sensitize postgraduate students on the usefulness of c-resources to
students, and Kampala International University Library internet needs to be improved in terms of
speed and stability to allow easy utilization of c-resources.
