dc.description.abstractThe present study is aimed at investigating relationship between learner’s perception and academic performance in primary schools. The study covered all aspects concerning studying of mathematics in primary schools. And it looked at the relationship between academic performance of pupils and their perception of the subject. This study was guided by a cross sectional survey design, documentary analysis in order to obtain meaning full description on the relationship between learner’s perception and academic performance. The study came out with the findings that there is a negative rank correlation towards student’s perception on mathematics on academic performance. And also it was found that there are other factors which influenced poor academic performance which include like unnecessary absenteeism, lack of qualified teachers, indiscipline of pupils, lack of teaching materials and poor school administration. Conclusively, it was found out that learners perception of the subject has an impact on the academic performance and the following suggestions must be put in place in order to promote academic performance in mathematics which include like deployment of qualified teachers those who are competent in teaching mathematics, guidance and counseling services in schools, good internal relationship between teachers and students. And best performing pupils in mathematics should be given prizes such as books, calculators to encourage improvement in performance.en_US
